They lost their credibility and didn’t have the appetite to do work on themselves!

We hadn’t quite gotten over the institutional racism of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club only to be landed with another scandal of egregious scale. Cricket Scotland has been weighed and found wanting. What I want to know, though, is why did the Cricket Scotland Board resign before the report was even published? Is it because they knew that they lost all credibility or is it because they simply didn’t have the appetite to undergo change themselves. On the one hand, resignation seems honourable. My fear, however, is that the same Board members will be transferred to another Cricket Board or the like and take with them their same attitudes and behaviours.

Read the report and you will see the countless lives that the Board’s negligence and racism have cost. Institutional racism is an infectious disease that has two sets of victims, the ‘perpetrated’ and the perpetrator. The ‘perpetrated’, for the obvious reason of being discriminated against. The perpetrator, for the not-so-obvious reason of being hardened through their racist acts of commission and omission. Directors and leaders must be prepared to put in the work on themselves to ensure fairer and just organisations. Otherwise, we will continue to witness a slew of litigations like this.
