#Whistleblowing about #racism can hardly be #anonymous, especially if the #whistleblower is one of a tiny group of #peopleofcolor in the #organisation, and worse still if they’re the only one. Mercy!
It tends to go #public, and when it does, you’re done for.
It’ll not only cost you your #livelihood and safety as it did with #Ngozi Fulani who had the nerve to out #buckinghampalace‘s racism, but it can also drive you out of the country as it has Azeem Rafiq who outed the Scottish #cricket Board!! Remember him?
Then again, it operates on a whole other level when you’re #meghanmarkle. Who can fathom the drip-feed, sometimes emboldened, but everyday hatred regurgitated by the #dailymail, topped only by the vile-spewing rant of the likes of Jeremy Clarkson?
Racism often begins with an ‘innocent’ microaggression that grows into serial microaggressions; and when confronted, gaslighting; and when confronted, isolation (microaggression); and when confronted, full-blown (collective) assault. Yes, others join in.
But when the others are the tabloids and social media, it’s a living hell!
Who’s at the helm of our newspapers? What do they care? Why don’t they consistently stand up for the victims of racism, instead of pushing back, gaslighting and bullying all the time? When our media bully people, they’re throwing a free party for all the racists – unsuspecting or intentional – to join it. It’s full-on violence!
Ask #Ngozi and #Azeem and they’ll tell you.
Organisations, you are duty-bound by the 2010 Equalities Law to preempt this, otherwise, you are culpable by this very law. There are people on here who can help. Let’s do this!
