Since becoming an EDI practitioner I’ve been conflicted with the question, “Does my EDI work constitute social justice?” This is because my interests in social justice and liberation essentially drive my academic work.
What do you think? Should EDI work aim to do the work of social justice and liberation? Or is it too messy to combine the two? It’s hard enough getting organisations and leaders onside EDI benchmarking and metrics, isn’t it? Then maybe we should be content with merely sorting the optics of representation and FairPlay so that everyone despite their background has an equal opportunity to get a bite of the cherry (?)
