The one who holds the mic controls the narrative.
If they are holding your mic, they are controlling your #narrative.
I came out of a meeting with the inimical and brilliant #Business#Coach, Sobiya Jawaid last Friday. (We are allies in strength, just to let you know.) And a statement she made has been ringing in my ears all weekend.
And now I have to say it allowed just to get released:
“(S)he who holds the mic, controls the narrative!”
Sit with that for a while. Who’s holding your mic? Who’s controlling your narrative?
We know the media has an unassailably dominant grip on the mic. They are masters at controlling the narrative. The thing is, they are looking for battle lines, not bridges. So, are you having difficulty with holding your own mic – the mic of your business, your leadership, your journey?
Taking hold of your own mic means:
☝Framing your own story – successes, lessons learned, philosophy – in alignment with your values and leadership styles
☝Communicating a clear message of your values, vision, goals and expertise
☝Building your credibility
☝Influencing the right people
☝Protecting your reputation
☝Minimising negative perceptions
No, it doesn’t negate negativity. People will always hate you, often for no good reason at all. But I’ve grown to know that there are vastly more people out there desirous of hearing your #voice, investing in your interests, buying your #product and #believing in you. So hold your mic!
Forget the haters. Be proactive in what you stand for by sharing your own #story through strategically leveraging social media and your website. Be authentic, transparent, positive, consistent and open to feedback. In essence, be true to yourself. That is your value. Be true to your mic!
I presently coach a couple of leaders. I haven’t got the time to coach many more. And, this is what I’m going to cover in our next session!! What are you going to do?
