Blessings to the distinguished #Windrush#Generation!
These are they who settled in the UK from the #Caribbean between the 1940s, 1950s & 1960s. No, they were not #immigrants, as they were made to feel – and as the Windrush discourse bleated out by the Home Office & Government would have us believe. They were #citizens of Her Majesty’s #Empire, invited to rebuild post-war #Great#Britain.
Ask them what was it like back then, and the most they will tell you is that it was very cold, very lonely and very grey – the buildings were grey, the clothes were grey, and even the food felt grey! They didn’t complain – I’ve yet not heard one instance of a racist account from my parents, even though they experienced #racism every day.
They just made bricks without straw. They beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. They kept their heads down, had children, brought some colour and spice to life and worshipped their God.
And we are the better for it. All of us. What do you say, UK?
So, let’s celebrate with this amazing clip by the fabulous Ann Palmer FCCT
